My husband, Mark, retired after 42 years with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. It has been an amazing experience, and the DSO will continue to play an important role in our lives. Still, his paycheck and benefits have stopped, and we must coordinate health insurance, pensions, and Social Security. Problem? He is only 60!
Additionally, we are shifting our investment portfolio from growth to income since Mark won’t be eligible for Medicare for five years, and he’d like to delay claiming his Social Security for as long as possible.
I’m five years older than Mank and will continue to work because it offers me a more fulfilling life. Plus, I have complete control over my schedule, so we can travel and enjoy flexibility!
Your situation may be similar or quite different, as I’ve found that every woman’s retirement circumstances are unique. However, regardless of your situation, there is always a plan. The key is to plan early and have a team in place.
Planning for retirement is an art and one of the best gifts you can give yourself. Among the most important retirement decisions to make are when to claim your Social Security and which Medicare plan is best for you.
If you are married, widowed, or divorced, there are additional options you should know about. That is why I recommend two important shows for you on Smart Women Talk. Join our Podcast or YouTube Channel to learn more!
Join Colleen Kilpatrick and me for “What Women Need to Know About Social Security.” Understanding the rules and deadlines for Social Security is crucial, which is why I became a Certified Social Security Claiming Specialist. In this show, we discuss:
- Why is it important to understand how retirement planning has evolved?
- Unique challenges women face in retirement planning.
- Ways to optimize your Social Security strategy for more income with less taxes.
Join me and Medicare expert Danielle Roberts to discuss Understanding the Medicare Maze. We will cover the differences between regular Medicare, Medicare supplements (Medigap), and Medicare Advantage to help you explore which option may be best for you.
I hope you can catch both shows. While you’re there, please remember to like, subscribe, and share with your friends. Thank you very much!
